One of golf’s most iconic halfway houses is now a private dining destination

Nairn Golf Club is offering golfers and visitors the chance to experience one of the most iconic halfway houses in golf in an entirely new way – with exclusive private dining at the historic Bothy after the halfway house service for members and guests has finished.

Stepping inside the famous white stone building beside the 9th green is one of the many highlights of playing Nairn’s Championship Course. The opportunity to take in the breathtaking views across the Moray Firth before heading out for the back nine is part of what makes a round at Nairn so special.

That experience was enhanced in 2025 with the completion of the first phase of a sensitive renovation programme designed to preserve the Bothy’s character. The work included replacing the damaged wooden floor with traditional flagstones, revealing original woodwork and stonework, and improving ventilation and drainage.

It is an established favourite, with golfers from all over the world travelling to the north-east coast of Scotland to experience it for themselves. The Bothy has also become something of a social media star, attracting plenty of attention online.

Now, groups of between 12 and 22 guests can make the Bothy their own. The historic building is available for exclusive private hire and three-course banquet packages throughout the year, starting at £55 per person.

Nairn itself has an illustrious golfing pedigree. The Championship Course has hosted major amateur events including the Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, Amateur Championship and Women’s Amateur Championship. It has also been a prominent feature of Top 100 GB&I golf course rankings over the years.

What is the Bothy at Nairn?

Its origins go well beyond golf. Built around 1877, the Bothy, along with the adjacent icehouse, formed the Easter Delnies Fishing Station. Recent research uncovered that the Bothy was originally sited closer to the sea and at some point, between 1904 and 1908 it was moved to its current location, possibly as a result of coastal erosion.

That combination of history and location makes a private dinner there a far cry from your typical golf club setting.

Guests are welcome to spend an evening inside a genuine piece of golfing history, located on one of Scotland’s great links courses. It’s particularly fitting for, but not exclusively reserved for, golf groups, society organisers, corporate guests, and those looking to celebrate special occasions.

“We’re delighted to be able to share the Bothy as a private function space, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a unique setting with some of the finest views across the Moray Firth,” said Nairn General Manager Paul Mills.

“Its history and character make it a unique venue for celebrations and private gatherings, while our food and hospitality are designed to make the occasion as enjoyable and memorable as possible.”

So, in addition to simply stopping for a quick refreshment between the 9th green and 10th tee during your round, groups can create a lasting experience and enjoy the space exclusively – turning one of golf’s most recognisable halfway houses into the setting for an unforgettable private occasion.

Dinner in a historic Bothy, beside one of Scotland’s finest links, with the Moray Firth as the backdrop. Is this the ultimate dining experience?
