Colonial Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida, has recently completed a nine-month, $9 million renovation of its golf course. The project was led by Gordon Lewis, the original architect of the 24-year-old private course. 

The renovation focused on Colonial’s greens. Lewis installed 21 new USGA-specification greens – the 18 for the course plus three practice greens, each grassed with new TifEagle Bermuda. The work also included a new irrigation system, a reduction in bunkers by 20 and a total re-grass of tees, fairways and rough with Bimini Bermuda. Crews also lifted and re-established waste areas that previously held water during the summer. A new 650-foot bulkhead was installed around the 18th green, and more than 400 trees and 20,000 landscaping plants were added.

“The renovation has transformed the course into something truly exceptional,” Colonial Country Club board president Dan Casciano said in a media release announcing completion of the renovation. “It is better than ever and raises the bar for the member experience across the entire club. This is a milestone we are proud of and one our members will feel every time they tee it up.”

A nine-hole golf course on the outskirts of Loch Ness in Scotland has come to the market at offers over $2 million.

Established in 1993 by Peter and Jessie Masheter, the course is known for being well-kept amid impressive scenery. The property also comes with four self-catering holiday cottages and two agricultural fields with associated barns and workshops.

Aigas Golf Course in Beauly currently offers adult memberships for just over $400, with season tickets coming in at $50. Nine-hole green fees start from $13 and adult green fees start from $27.

The course has served as a base for the Aigas Golf Club since it was formed in 1994, but generates the majority of its revenues from visitors’ fees.

According to the listing with Bell Ingram, the current owners are prepared to support new proprietors with training “to ensure a seamless handover.”

There is also a clubhouse and practice area.

According to the Aigas website, the par-33 parkland course was designed by professional golfer Bill Mitchell and “has matured beautifully over the past 25 years.”

“Under the care of our dedicated greenkeeping team, the course remains impeccably manicured, promising a challenging yet rewarding game for all skill levels,” it continues.

“As a testament to our commitment to excellence, guests at Aigas Holiday Cottages enjoy a 50% discount on green fees.”

The Coach House, Pond View, Old Dairy and Old Stable cottages are located at different areas of the site and are said by Bell Ingram to be trading profitably. Currently trading from March to November, the realtors suggest there is scope to increase revenues by opening the cottages year-round to take advantage of winter trade and demand for short breaks.

All have use of a laundry room and games room. There is also a communal garden and BBQ area with outdoor seating, plus dedicated parking.
